VNG Teacher Spotlight: The Harrison High School CLDE Team

The Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education team at Harrison High School are collecting receiving the award for VNG Teacher of the Month for March. They support students, especially newcomer emergent bilingual students, in engaging in academic discussions using academic language.

The members of this stellar team are (from left to right): Brenda Theone, Isabel Clamons, Anna Rose Cooke, Alba Hernandez, and Tayesha Gass-Gray. Here is what they have to say about their experience using the VNG:

Our Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education team at Harrison High School knows that our newcomer students are excited to be part of their content classes. Because of that, we’ve made a clear choice to build language skills through the content they’re already learning.
The Visual Non-Glossary has been a great tool for creating International Baccalaureate units that bring together social studies, science, and math. It helps make learning more accessible while giving students the language they need to participate.
The best part is seeing our students use academic vocabulary with confidence and join in meaningful conversations.
